I started my career at Scotiabank as a teller in university. When I first started, I had a credit card in arrears, no savings and knew very little about managing my money. Fast forward 10+ years and I was a Financial Planner, moving across the country from Edmonton to Liverpool to become a Branch Manager. I really did enjoy this job, but after having my second child during the pandemic, when it was time to go back to work my heart wasn't in it anymore. I've always been someone who need fulfillment in their work, the bi-weekly paycheque is not a big motivator for me. So I decided to try life as an entrepreneur! After trying on a few hats, I started working as a mortgage broker in the fall of 2022.
Purchasing my first home in my 20's was a financial game changer. My then boyfriend (now husband) and I bought a small condo using my RSPs as a down payment and later purchased a house using the built up equity in the condo. Seeing my amortization drop month over month is still extremely rewarding. Home ownership plays a major part in your financial plan, and I absolutely love helping my clients get there.
Moving to Nova Scotia in 2017 was another life decision that I am so grateful for. The community I have found in Queens County is unlike anything I have ever experienced! I've been fortunate to live many places in my life- all around Canada, Costa Rica, England, and am very happy to call Nova Scotia home. I am the President of the South Queens Chamber of Commerce and the Queens County Soccer Club. I also host a weekly radio show on our local radio station QCCR called Let's Talk Money. It's certainly busy, but with the support of my husband Scott, I find the time to get everything done.
Scott grew up in Nova Scotia, and his roots here go back generations! I love hearing stories about life here, and what it was like for his parents and grandparents, like when Nanny Lilly would trade her lobster sandwiches for bologna! Scott has his own consulting firm and is a beach, music and pickleball enthusiast! We have two bubbly boys who certainly keep us on our toes. As a family we love travelling, camping, biking and cuddling in front of a good show.
